If you haven’t heard by now, we made a beer with Cannabis terpenes. Initially, we were a little hesitant to make what some would consider to be a novelty beer or some kind of gimmick. However, Cannabis is a genetic relative of hops, and like hops, Cannabis can present what we believe are complex and delicious aromatics and flavors. To create Resin on My Thumbs, we added terpenes from the strains G-13 and Lemon Kush, supplied by our friends at Terpene Station. Terpenes are non-psychoactive flavor molecules, and beers made with Cannabis terpenes are legal in all 50 states.
We added terpenes to a mixed culture Saison that spent 13 months in French Oak puncheons, and we added the terpenes to enhance, rather than overwhelm the base beer. We purposely chose a beer that is nuanced and delicate to highlight the flavors of pine, citrus, and herbaceous spice provided by G-13 and Lemon Kush, and we’re pretty happy with the result. Resin on My Thumbs has been one of our most popular beers in the tasting room, and Cannabis is becoming more accepted in American culture; it is only a matter of time before Cannabis terpenes become prevalent in the food and beverage industry.
We have been getting more of our beer ready for our tap lines, and we are happy to say that when we open this Thursday we will have six of our own beers on tap! It has taken us awhile to increase our draft selection because of how long it takes to produce our beer. Some of the beers we have on draft are limited and will not be bottled, so be sure to make it over to the tasting room and try our new beers!
